 Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Australia's tiniest creatures! 


Bug Alive Exhibition is Australia's largest live invertebrate exhibition, featuring more than 100 species of incredible mini beasts. Discover an amazing variety of live insects and invertebrates, enjoy interactive shows, expert talks, hands-on workshops, and fun activities for kids of all ages.


Exhibition Highlights


  • Over 100 Live Invertebrate Species
    Encounter an extraordinary collection of spiders, scorpions, butterflies, stick insects, beetles, millipedes, centipedes, snails, aquatic invertebrates, mites, crabs, and much more.
  • Venom Room
    Step into the Venom Room and come face-to-face with some of Australia's most venomous invertebrates, including funnel-web spiders, scorpions, orb-weaving spiders, tarantulas, and other fascinating species.
  • Tiny Creatures (New!)
    Get an up-close look at some of the smallest creatures on Earth. This unique display showcases tiny invertebrates such as mites and springtails that are often too small to notice with the naked eye.
  • Critters of the Night (New!)
    Discover the hidden world of Australia's nocturnal invertebrates. Meet fascinating night-dwellers including wolf spiders, centipedes, semi-slugs, and other creatures that come alive after dark.
  • Kids' Critter Corner
    A fun-filled arts and crafts area where children can create, explore, and learn more about the amazing world of bugs through interactive activities.
  • Butterfly Dome
    One of our most popular attractions, the Butterfly Dome offers guests the chance to walk among beautiful Queensland butterflies while learning about their incredible life cycle and importance to our environment.
  • Mini Beast Show
    Held daily at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm, this interactive live show gives guests the opportunity to meet some of Australia's largest and most impressive invertebrates up close.
  • Daily Workshops
    Join us each day at 2:30 pm for a hands-on workshop. Every session features a different topic or activity, offering something new to discover each day. Bookings are essential.

Bugs Alive Exhibition at held at Crosbie Morrison Building, Australian National Gardens, Canberra. Easy walk from the carpark and close to the cafe.

Daily Invertebrate workshops and talks

Our Mini Beast shows runs twice a day at 12:30pm and 2:30pm on the 2nd of October, 10:30am and 12:30pm on the 3rd to the 8th of October and at 10:30am on the 9th of October.


Each day, we'll be hosting a special workshop or guest talk. Bookings are essential for all workshops so our team can plan for participant numbers. Please note that workshops incur an additional fee to help cover materials and facilitation costs.


Below is the schedule of our workshops and special talks:


2nd October, Friday: 10:30am, Kids arts and craft workshop, build your own insect habitat

3rd October Saturday: 2:30pm, Tarantula talk

4th October Sunday: 2:30pm, Bugs in Crises special show

5th October Monday: 2:30pm, Invertebrate pinning and display workshop

6th October Tuesday: 2:30pm, Keeping insects and spiders at home workshop

7th October Wednesday: 2:30pm, special low sensory Mini Beast Show

8th October Thursday: 2:30pm, macro photography with our invertebrates.
